Opportunity

We have an interesting opportunity for an underwriter to work within our StandardAsia office in Singapore underwrite both new and existing business.

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys what they do and has a determined ‘can do’ attitude. A confident communicator, you should also be able to challenge and influence at all levels, and liaise and communicate effectively with internal and external partners.


What will you be doing?

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for the underwriting and renewal of accounts within the NorthStandard Asia Pacific sector under the overall direction of the underwriting directors and heads of division (HOD).
  • Report on all matters to the head of division but in addition will refer acceptance of new members to the underwriting director and will report to the underwriting director on professional underwriting matters in accordance with agreed underwriting guidelines.
  • Responsible for enabling the prompt and accurate production and processing of members' policy documentation and debiting by the operational team staff.
  • Responsible to the underwriting directors and HOD for the club’s renewal budget and reports.
  • Responsible for organising the circulation of new business quotations to the International Underwriting Directors and HOD in accordance with procedures.
  • Responsible for supporting the placement of reinsurance for club members, where necessary, in collaboration with the reinsurance department.
  • Responsible for the analysis and monitoring of underwriting trends and deterioration for the club members.
  • Assisting with entering new business, fleet additions and declinatures into the Weekly Underwriting Report.
  • Ensure full liaison and communication with club’s claims staff on both claims and contract reviews.
  • Identify and develop new business for the club within the business areas dealt with by the club and the necessary liaison with the brokers and the members involved.
  • Participation in internal working groups and go to teams as and when required.
  • Assist in the general management of the club and its business.
  • Your key accountabilities will include such other duties and tasks are as allocated to you at the discretion of management and that are within your capabilities and within the scope of your post.

About you

Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience

  • A solid grounding in marine insurance, 5-10 years minimum with P&I underwriting experience. A broker may also be suitable, should they have the required market knowledge and the ability to learn fast.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to build strong relationships.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be motivated and driven to succeed.
  • Willingness to travel on business.
